Sports Psychology

Salutations my friends and welcome to my blog. This is my first blog so go easy on me.

I have alot of friends that are apprehensive about starting their fitness journey or restarting their fitness activities from years or even decades ago. It's important to remember a few things.

First, Nobody is in the gym that is already where they want to be physically. Even Mr. Olympia wants to be better. When we stop the desire to be better we may as well be dead. That extends to nearly every aspect of life in general.

Second, nobody started off looking like the Baywatch models. Fitness is a journey and not a race. If it was easy everybody would be doing it. Make it fun, find your passion, and workouts will soon become fun and not a chore. Nearly everyone can find a niche. Basketball, cycling, weight lifting, yoga, running, swimming, kayaking, and even the fast growing sport of pickellball is a great way to get started.

It doesn't matter if you aren't good at a sport. Just have fun with it and your performance will eventually increase. Bring your music, workout buddy, or join a group workout if you need human interaction for motivation.

For those that want to get summer ready, don't make your objective to be to lose XXX amount of weight. Performance is measurable so find a gym with the InBody measurement scale that breaks down AND tracks body fat lean muscle mass, and weight. Stick to a specific number of days and time for workouts and progress will come. You will soon see the body fat percentage drop and the lean muscle mass increase. Lean muscle mass is associated with less incidents of injury, lower cancer rates, lower diabetes rates, and lower cardio vascular disease rates. By the way, cardio vascular disease is the leading cause of death and a person dies every 34 seconds of cardio vascular disease.

Last, weight lifting burns more fat than cardio and weight lifting has residual fat burn even 3-4 days after weight lifting as opposed to cardio that burns fat mostly only while participating int he cardio activity.
